The Victorian Period (1832-1901)

এ যুগের কিছু গুরুত্বপূর্ণ তথ্য:

👉 ১৮৫৭ সালের সিপাহী বিদ্রোহের পর রানী ভিক্টোরিয়া ১৮৫৮ সালে ইস্ট ইন্ডিয়া কোম্পানির কাছ থেকে ভারতীয় উপমহাদেশের শাসনভার নিজ হাতে গ্রহণ করেন। 

👉১৮৬০ সালে ভারতে নীল বিদ্রোহের অবসান ঘটে।

👉এই যুগের ক্সবশিষ্ট্য হলো-  Symbolism, Medievalism, Sensuousness etc.

👉 Concept of communism (সাম্যবাদের ধারণা) এই যুগকে প্রভাবিত করে।

👉এই যুগে Charles Darwin এর বিখ্যাত  Theory of Evolution (বিবর্তনবাদ তত্ত¡) প্রচারিত হয়। যা ছিল ধর্মীয় চেতনার সাথে সাংঘর্ষিক।
👉 In 1833, slaves were declared free .
👉 In 1833, Fabian society was formed .
👉 Bahadur Shah II, (1837–1857) the last Mughal Emperor was deposed in 1858 by the British East India company and exiled to Burma following the War of 1857 after the fall of Delhi to the company troops. His death marks the end of the Mughal dynasty.
👉 ১৮৫৩ সালে লর্ড ডালহে․সি উপমহাদেশে রেল যোগাযোগ চালু করেন এবং ১৮৫৬ সালে(ঈশ্বরচন্দ্র বিদ্যাসাগরের প্রচেষ্টায়) বিধবা বিবাহ আইন পাস করান।
👉১৮৫৭ সালে লর্ড ক্যানিং উপমহাদেশে প্র ম কাগজের মুদ্রা এবং ১৮৬১ সালে পুলিশ সার্ভিস চালু করেন।
👉১৮৩৯-১৮৪২ পর্যন্ত চীন ও ব্রিটেনের মাঝে ঋরৎংঃ ঙঢ়রঁস ডধৎ সংগঠিত হয়। এ যুদ্ধে চীন পরাজিত হয় এবং যুক্তরাজ্যের কাছে হংকং দ্বীপটি লিজ দিতে বাধ্য হয়।
👉 ১৮৮৬ সালে ফ্রান্স যুক্তরাষ্ট্রকে স্ট্যাচু অব লিবার্টি উপহার দেয়, যা ১৯২৪ সালে যুক্তরাষ্ট্র  সরকার জাতীয় সে․ধ হিসেবে ঘোষণা করে।
👉 ভিক্টোরিয়া μস (ঠরপঃড়ৎরধ ঈৎড়ংং) বৃটেনের সর্বোচ্চ সামরিক খেতাব। কমনওয়েলথভুক্ত দেশসমূহের মধ্যে এ পদক প্রদান করা হয়।
👉ব্রিটিশ রাজপরিবারের বাসভবন হলো লন্ডনের ‘বাকিংহামv প্যালেস’, রানী ভিক্টোরিয়া এ প্রাসাদের প্র ম রানী হিসেবে বসবাস করেছিলেন।

বাংলা উপন্যাসের জনক। Rajmohan’s Wife – এটি ইংরেজি ভাষায় রচিত লেখকের উপন্যাস।

ইংরেজি Romantic যুগের সাহিত্যিক Thomas De Quincy এর “Confession of an English Opium Eater” রচনার অনুকরণে বঙ্কিমচন্দ্র তার কমলাকান্তের দপ্তর রচনা করেন।

বঙ্কিমচন্দ্রের আনন্দমঠ উপন্যাসের ইংরেজি অনুবাদ করেছেন নরেশচন্দ্র সেনগুপ্ত   – ‘The Abbey of Bliss’ নামে।
