The Commonwealth Period(1649-1660)
ইংরেজী সাহিত্যে The Commonwealth Period-কে অরাজকাল বা Puritan interregnum বলে।কারণ ১৬৪৯ সালে রাজা প্রথম চালর্সকে শিরশ্ছেদ করা হয়। তাই এই যুগও Puritan যুগের অন্তর্ভুক্ত। 1558 সালে Oliver Cromweel এর মৃত্যুর পর তার পুত্র Richard Cromwell England এর ক্ষমতায় আরোহণ করেন এবং তিনি অদক্ষতার জন্য জনপ্রিয়তা হারান।
There was no monarch in this Period. Then English people realized that Monarchy was essential for them.

তাকে আধুনিক রাজনৈতিক দর্শনের জনক বলা হয়।
তার বিখ্যাত বই – Leviathan (দ্য লেভিয়াথান) [এই গ্রন্থে তিনি রাজার সার্বভৌম অধিকারের কথা ঘোষণা করেছেন]
